A Shared Spirit of Innovation at ROGII Tech Houston 2024

Oct 30, 2024

One of the defining qualities across all ROGII Tech events this year has been the shared spirit of innovation and collaboration among geoscientists, engineers, and industry leaders. At each gathering, we’ve witnessed an eagerness to push the boundaries of geoscience, explore new workflows, and leverage advanced technologies to solve complex challenges in the field.

About ROGII Tech Houston: Our Houston event, ROGII Tech 2024, continued this tradition by bringing together top minds in the industry to share cutting-edge techniques and discuss the latest advancements in Geoscience, Geosteering and Data integration. The day was filled with insightful talks, hands-on demonstrations, and in-depth discussions about how tools like StarSteer, and Solo Cloud, are revolutionizing well planning, drilling, and real-time decision-making.

Event Highlights: Here are some of the incredible sessions that sparked conversations and inspired new ideas:

  1. Ian Thomas, Director - Subsurface, Olympus Energy LLC

Talk: "Quantifying and Communicating Lateral Drilling Risk Using 3D Visualization in StarSteer."

Summary: Ian showcased how StarSteer’s 3D visualization capabilities can bridge communication gaps and enhance lateral drilling risk assessment, empowering teams to make quicker, more informed decisions.

  1. Daniel Meehan, Upstream Engineering & Geoscience Technology Specialist, ExxonMobil

Talk: "StarSteer, Python, and Co-Pilot: Tips and a Test-Case for LLM Integration."

Summary: Daniel walked us through the integration of Python with StarSteer, using LLMs to enhance workflows and introduce AI-driven efficiencies into geoscience processes.

  1. Daniel Wessel, CEO, Innova Drilling & Intervention

Talk: "Bringing Harmony to Drilling and Geoscience Data Communication."

Summary: Daniel explored how Innova’s tools create a seamless connection between geosteering and directional drilling, focusing on 3D visualization and closed-loop communication systems.

  1. Robert Gilmore, Director - Subsurface Operations, IMPAC

Talk: "Machine Learning in Geosteering: A New Approach to Real-Time Decision Making."

Summary: Robert discussed how IMPAC is pioneering machine learning in geosteering, integrating XRF data to support more accurate, data-driven decisions.

  1. Narayan Shanker, Sr Partner Sales Manager, AWS for Energysome text

Talk: "Multi-Zone Replication for Business Continuity."

Summary: Narayan highlighted AWS’s partnership with ROGII and the role of multi-zone replication in maintaining data integrity and business continuity for Solo Cloud users.

  1. Andrew Stearns, Geoscientist, TGSsome text

Talk: "Optimizing Field Development in the Midland Basin."

Summary: Andrew shared strategies for full-cycle field development, using TGS’s data analytics tools to identify profitable targets and plan efficiently.

Panel Discussion: A highlight of the day was the panel discussion with John Rosen (Chevron), Lee Bartholomew (Sinclair Oil & Gas), and Pete Christianson (Marathon Oil), where they shared insights on integrating drilling and geoscience for effective data communication and well planning.
